Ensure your information is up to date on the Voters List and view the list of certified candidates.

Use the Town of Cobourg Elector Lookup tool to verify whether you are on the Voters List and review your voter information.

1. Complete all required fields in the Elector Lookup form.
2. Click the Lookup button to search for your voter record.

If a matching record is found, a confirmation screen will display your voter information for review. 

You may update your information where applicable. If no matching record is found, you will have the option to submit a registration request to be added to the Voters' List.

Update your information
If you are already on the Voters List, you may be able to update your voter information after completing the Elector Lookup process.

After locating your voter record:
•    Review the information displayed on the confirmation screen.
•    Update any information that requires correction or changes, where applicable.
•    Follow the on-screen instructions to submit your updates.

Add your name to the Voters List
If your name is not found through the Elector Lookup process, you can submit a request to be added to the Voters' List.

If no matching record is found:
1. Select Register.
2. The Voter Registration Portal will open with your information pre-populated.
3. Upload identification showing proof of identity and qualifying address in the Town of Cobourg. (Refer to the Acceptable Documents for Voter Identification list). 
4. Select Register to submit your registration request.

You will receive a confirmation email once your request has been submitted.

Registration review and confirmation
After you submit a registration request:
•    A confirmation screen will appear.
•    A confirmation email will be sent to you.
•    Election Officials will review and process your registration request.

Important: Receiving a registration confirmation does not guarantee that you have been added to the Voters List. Election Officials must review and process your registration request to determine whether you meet the requirements to be added to the Voters List. A confirmation email will be sent once your request has been reviewed, advising whether you have been added to the Voters List or if your registration request has been declined.

An eligible elector may have residences in two (2) local municipalities at the same time if:

• the person lives in one of the local municipalities to attend an educational institution, but not with the intention of changing their permanent lodging place.
• the person’s permanent lodging place is in the other local municipality.

In this scenario, the elector is eligible to vote in both their "home" municipality and in the municipality where they currently live while attending school.

A person’s residence is the permanent lodging place to which, whenever absent, the person intends to return. A person may only have one residence at a time. If a person has no other permanent lodging place, the place where they occupy a room, or part of a room as a regular lodger or to which they habitually return is their residence.

Eligible electors with no address or permanent lodging place can vote and determine their residence by:

• The place to which the person most frequently returned to sleep or eat during the five weeks preceding the determination is their residence.
• If the person returns with equal frequency to one place to sleep and to another to eat, the place to which they return to sleep is their residence.
• Multiple returns to the same place during a single day, whether to eat or to sleep, shall be considered one return.
• A person’s declaration regarding the places to which they returned to eat or sleep during a given time period is conclusive, in the absence of evidence to the contrary.

If you are eligible to vote in the Town of Cobourg as well as other municipalities, you can vote in all those municipal elections.

If you are eligible to vote in another municipality that is within the County of Northumberland, you may only vote for School Board Trustee once. 

The following persons are prohibited from voting under the Municipal Elections Act:

• A person who is serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution
• A corporation
• A person acting as executor or trustee in any other representative capacity, except as a voting proxy
• A person who was convicted of corrupt practices as defined in the Municipal Elections Act
